Adapting to generative engineering

Generative Engineering describes the new way of AI-powered development. I fear most organizations will take a "adapt or" approach.

You can participate in a company-sponsored training, but if you missed the boat so far, a one-time session is like bailing out a sinking ship. Knowing how to learn is the only durable skill when the landscape refreshes every month.

A developer therefore needs to:

• Read the release notes of the tools they rely on.
• Experiment and try something new every day.
• Hang out where engineers talk shop: Hacker News, Reddit, Lobsters, etc.
• Block out time each week for micro-courses on deeplearning.ai, YouTube, and similar platforms.
• Use today's tooling (Google's AI mode, SearchGPT, NotebookLM, Perplexity, etc.) to summarize big events like Microsoft Build and Google I/O.
• Follow the right people on social media.

The good news is that the same AI that is accelerating the change also makes it easier than ever to stay on the wave, if you treat learning as a continuous background process.
